Personal Life

Stephenie Meyer, then age 21, wed Christiaan Meyer, whom she had first known as a young child at church, in 1994. Christiaan quit from his position as an auditor to care for their three sons, Gabe, Seth, and Eli after Stephanie’s career took off. Meyer, who was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, abstains from drinking, smoking, caffeine, and watching R-rated movies, and the characters in the “Twilight” books do the same. The world is a better place when women are in leadership positions, according to feminist Stephenie. However, feminists have criticised her since Bella isn’t in charge of her life in the “Twilight” novel and is dependent on Edward to protect her and after their marriage is complete, sustains physical harm.

Career

According to Meyer, she had a dream about a “average girl” and a “fantastically beautiful, sparkly” vampire (who would later be identified as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen) talking about how they were falling in love and how the vampire was drawn to the smell of the girl’s blood, which was driving him to want to kill her. Before returning to write the first 12 chapters of “Twilight,” she produced a first draft of what would eventually become the novel’s thirteenth chapter. Stephenie joined the American Night Authors Association, an organisation for budding female writers who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, while she was writing the book, and she completed her first in just three months.

Meyer was convinced to do so by her sister, and she contacted 15 literary agencies. Nine of them gave her rejection letters, and five of them never responded. Genevieve, a writer’s home assistant, gave her one helpful response after originally asking for the first three chapters of the book before requesting the entire manuscript. When Writers House literary agent Jodi Reamer contacted Meyer about representing “Twilight” and forwarded the manuscript to nine publishers, Little, Brown and Company granted Stephenie a three-book deal worth $750,000. On “The New York Times” Children’s Chapter Books best selling list, “Twilight” debuted on October 5, 2005, and surged fast to #5 before eventually taking the top spot. Twilight was named “Publishers Weekly’s” Best Book of the Year, and in 2006, Stephenie released “New Moon,” which stayed nearly a year on “The New York Times” Children’s Chapter Books list. Breaking Dawn, her fourth book, was published in 2008 after the release of Eclipse, her third book. A staggering 1.3 million copies of Breaking Dawn were sold on the first day of release.

Author Jordan Scott served Meyer with a cease and desist order in 2009, accusing her of plagiarizing her work and saying that several sections of “Breaking Dawn” resembled the premise of her vampire novel, “The Nocturne.” In response to Stephanie’s claim that she was unaware of Scott or her work, Scott failed to produce a copy of “The Nocturne” to support her claim. The “Twilight” series has been translated into 37 other tongues, and in 2008 and 2009, the books ranked first through fourth on the “USA Today” list of the year’s best-selling books. Five films based on the novels have been made, and together they have made more than $3.3 billion at the box office. The first “Twilight” book to be written from Edward’s point of view rather than Bella’s was published by Meyer in 2020, and it quickly sold more than a million copies.
