Personal Life

In 2006, while travelling with fellow actor Jung Il-woo and two other friends, Lee was seriously injured in a vehicle accident, which forced him to put his acting career on pause for a year. An automobile fleeing from a previous hit-and-run struck the group of friends head-on as they were travelling to Gangwon Province, destroying the hood and engine of their car. The two passengers in the back of the car, Lee and Jung, suffered grave injuries in the collision. In the front seat of the car, their two pals perished instantly. Lee suffered severe injuries, fell into a coma for a month, and then had to stay in bed for several months.

Career

After starting to audition, Lee was given small parts in several television dramas, such as Nonstop 5 and Recipe of Love. His official acting debut occurred in the EBS series Secret Campus in 2003. Early in his career, Lee adopted the alias Lee Min because his agency believed his given name was too popular. He then complained that his stage name was spoken and spelt similarly to the Korean word “imin,” which denotes “immigration,” making it challenging to locate oneself in online search results. He eventually went back to using his old name. Lee’s breakout performance as Gu Jun-pyo in Boys Over Flowers, a Korean adaptation of the well-known Shjo manga of the same name, occurred in 2009. Since there was a lot of competition for the lead role, Lee only found out he had been cast through the media. During its broadcast, the series attracted a lot of interest in South Korea and garnered excellent ratings.
